Sunday School meets weekly from 9:15am to 10:15am on Sunday mornings during the fall, winter, and spring. Children in preschool through grade 6 participate in the program. Songs, crafts, bible stories, and interactive media help to engage children in the lessons.
The Sunday School classes meet as a whole at the beginning of each session to hear a children's message, sing songs, and pray. Afterwards, classes break up by age-range. Volunteer team teachers lead each class in age-appropriate activities to help children grow in faith.
The children that attend Sunday School also present a yearly Christmas Pageant at Good Shepherd and at the Lutheran Home of Southbury. We also have a Vacation Bible School for children in preschool through sixth grade during the summer.
The confirmation program prepares students in 7th and 8th grade to become active adult members of Good Shepherd. The program is taught by Pastor Doug on the first and third Tuesday evening of each month from 7:00 to 8:20 pm in the fall, winter, and spring.
Intergenerational Sunday School Services
Currently we have Intergenerational Sunday School services quarterly. We meet in Gibiser Hall for an informal interactive worship time for all ages which is followed by an outreach service project or a family keepsake. Brady's Blankets, American Cancer Society, Ben's Bells, Valentines for shut-ins and Lutheran World Relief are just a few of the outreach projects. Advent wreaths, calendars and logs have been traditional family keepsakes.
Adult Bible Study
Adult Bible Studies led by Pastor Doug explore different relevant topics in multi-week sessions. There is a daytime session on Wednesday mornings at 11:00 a.m. and an nighttime session on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. Together we will see how the bible can be Word of God and have something true to inspire us with.
