Church Pictorial Directory

We will  be producing a new pictorial directory and need you in it to make it the best ever. The directory will be a great tool to help us place names with faces. We have selected Lifetouch for this project. Photography will take place on Thursday, March 22nd from 2:30 – 8:50 p.m. and Friday, March 23rd from 2:30 – 8:50 p.m. Sign up for your appointment in church after each service or online

Every participating family will receive a free 8 x 10 color portrait and a free pictorial directory. Additional pictures are available for purchase.  Everyone is encouraged to participate – singles, couples, families with children. You can also bring in the family pet and extended family members. Please allow 30 – 45 minutes for photography and for instant viewing and selection of the portraits you may wish to purchase. Our goal is 100% participation, so please sign up after the worship services or online today.

If you have any questions, please speak with Lisa Lilly or Rachel Smith.

Women’s Bible Study

“Bad Girls” and “Really Bad Girls of the Bible” is the study for the Women’s Bible Study this Fall & Winter season.  The Study centers on the book series by Liz Curtis Higgs.  The format, structure and discussions will be totally different than what we’ve done in our past several sessions.  On the dates below, beginning at 7:00 PM, we will focus on:

Study 1:  “Bad Girls of the Bible and What We Can Learn from Them”

September 29th – DVD presentation by author with conversation & fellow    ship to follow

October 27th – Study on some ‘bad girls”; Eve, Potiphar’s Wife, Lot’s Wife, The Woman at the Well, Delilah, Sapphira, Rehab, Jezebel, Michal, the Sinful Woman

Study 2:  “Really Bad Girls of the Bible:  More Lessons from Less-Than-Perfect Women”

January 26th – DVD presentation by author with conversation & fellowship to follow

February 23rd – Study on the “really bad girls”; Medium of En Dor, Jael, The Adulteress, Athaliah, Bathsheba, Herodias, Tamar the Widow, The Bleeding Woman

I would highly recommend that you purchase each of these books.  The author’s study is unique.  She takes a contemporary fiction story and connects it with nonfiction biblical stories helping us relate more effectively and bringing us closer to the women of Scripture “whose lives are filled with important lessons and insights for women today”.  You can either purchase these books individually or you can see Renee Shoop who will try to put one order together.  It is not necessary to purchase these books however your experience will be more rewarding.  Amazon carries the paperback books in inventory at a cost of approximately $15/book which includes shipping and tax.

These are the only planned dates for the Women’s Bible Study for 2010/2011.  There are many women we can study.  If the group wishes to expand on this theme we can try to accommodate other dates and times throughout the year.

In the meantime, please join us at our first session on September 29th.  I’m sure you will go home with a different attitude about the “Bad Girls of the Bible” and I’m positive you will learn something about them and yourself.

Tuesday Evening Adult Forum

Grow in faith and understanding each Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Leone for “Journeys with Paul” as we learn about Paul and the Kingdom of God vs. The Emperor and the Divine Kingdom of Rome. The forum meets every Tuesday from  September 14 through December 14 with the exception of Tuesday, September 21 and Tuesday, October 19.

Sunday Morning Adult Bible Study

Grab a cup of coffee from the welcome table in the narthex and join the Adult Bible Study group for study and fellowship each Sunday morning at 9:15 a.m. The readings for each Sunday morning service are the focal point of the study so join us whenever you are able.  See Ken Furnes if you have any questions.

Rally Day Picnic

Celebrate the start of the Sunday School year with us! Everyone is invited to enjoy hot dogs and hamburgers following the 10:30 worship service. Bring your appetite and a side dish to share. The picnic is here at Good Shepherd – rain or shine.

Covenant to Care Backpacks

If you’d like to help our Covenant to Care kids start the new school year off right, check the list of names that will appear in the narthex in late July. We’ll be looking for backpacks to be filled and ready for pickup on August 15th.

Michelle, our social worker, has also asked for donations for a girl who needs “everything” for college: a gift card from Kohl’s for clothes, college-type items such as a laundry bag, etc. Donations may be left on the 15th as well and marked for “college girl.” Thank you!
